Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner

My usual problems with oil regulating facial toners is that most of them has strong alcohol scent while others tend to over-dry my skin. Majority of the products that I have tried usually costs around Php500.00 to Php800.00 but I still ended up getting the same "chaka" results.

Last March 2013, Kiehl's recently opened their 6th boutique in Manila located at Shangri-La Plaza East Wing in Mandaluyong. I was intrigued with their quirky interiors which gravitated me towards the shop. Upon entering the boutique, I was greeted by their very accommodating and friendly SAs. Their Top 10 best-selling products were displayed in a corner near the entrance and there were also samples for each product in all shades and skin care line. Knowing that my Eskinol Facial Cleanser is just a few drops away from extinction, I concentrated on testing their facial toners.

My first impression while browsing their products is that the prices were a bit too expensive. Hahaha! Little did I know that aside from expecting only the best results from their products, they also give-out a lot of samples upon purchase.

My first Kiehl's purchase!
I got free samples of their Ultra Facial Cleanser, Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser, Aromatic Blends in Nashi & Pink Grapefruit, Kiehl's latest which is Actively Correcting and Beautifying BB Cream and last but definitely not the least is Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner

Claims: (As written on the bottle) Our oil-free toner is formulated to visibly reduce excess oil on skin's surface, while leaving it instantly fresh and healthy looking. Made with Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract and Antarcticine to soothe and hydrate skin, our non-drying alcohol-free formula gently removes any remaining residue, dirt and oil without stripping skin of vital moisture. PH-balanced. Tested for safety and gentleness. Paraben-Free. Silicone-Free. Fragrance-Free. Oil-free. (Unfotunately, the product is not free, hahaha!)

Hydrating formula to balance and freshen skin.

For normal to oily skin types.

Use: After cleansing, moisture a cotton pad with the toner and apply to face, avoiding the immediate eye area.

Price: Php1,050.00 for a 250ml bottle.

Hits:
  • It has an almost mute herbal fragrance which is not irritating to my nose.
  • After applying the product, my skin feels clean and refreshed without the "evaporating-alcohol" feel.
  • My skin texture feels smooth and moisturized even when using this product alone.
  • I can flawlessly apply moisturizer and liquid foundation on my face since it no longer has flaking skin  which is usually common on my nostril openings and dried pimple areas.
  • I only need around 5 drops of the product for it to cover my face and neck.
Miss:
  • The price is a bit expensive but the end results are really worth it.
I am definitely re-purchasing this product once I finished my first bottle. I never had the same results from my Php500.00 to Php800.00 toners. No stinging and flaking. I love how my skin feels amazingly clean and moisturized without the heavy petroleum like residue of common non-moisture stripping formulas or the feel of evaporating alcohol on my face when using oil removing toners (even compared it to other high-end products).

Human Nature 100% Natural Sunflower Beauty Oil

From my childhood up to my teenage years, I used to believe that oils are only used for cooking and cleaning one's navel. It is when I bumped into The Body Shop's Olive Oil Mist in college when I realized that it is also used for the largest part of our body. (Awkward!)

3 weeks ago, I dropped by at "The Beauty Bar" in EDSA Shangri-La to window shop (which usually ends up with a purchase anyway). I only have an extra Php500.00 bucks on my wallet so I decided to find one particular product that will fit my budget and this is what I ended up buying -Human Nature 100% Natural Sunflower Beauty Oil.

Human Nature 100% Sunflower Beauty Oil
It comes in an easy dispense pump.
Claims: (as written on the bottle) Do you believe in miracles in bottles? Experience miracles as our gold elixir works its magic. Helps lighten dark under eye circles, dark spots and pimple marks, minimize stretchmarks, lighten underarms, adds shine to dull hair, moisturizes the face and body, and more! No wonder sunflowers are known as "Happy Flowers" for the joy they bring!

Dermatologist tested.

100% no harmful chemicals.

No parabens, phthalates, PEG's, mineral oil or other toxic substances.

Only the good!
Use: Gently massage onto skin day & night after cleansing or apply half a drop all over hair for shine. It can also be used as a gentle eye make-up remover.

Price: Starts at Php130.00 for a 50ml bottle.

Hits:
  • I use this product on my stretchmarks located at my upper legs. My skin on that area is usually dry and itchy. After 3 weeks of use, my stretchmarks are less visible and the skin around that area feels more firm and moisturized.
  • It also minimizes underarm irritations caused by shaving and whitening solutions when used every night.
  • I applied this on red spots post leg-waxing and my skin healed in just 3 days.
  • I also used this as cuticle oil when i'm feeling lazy to do my mani-pedi.
  • Very affordable! A month's bottle costs less than 150.00 bucks. :)
Miss:
  • None!
This product lives up to its promise and without the unnecessary costs. April Hauls + Happy List

I am not feeling well these past few days, but I cannot let a day pass without being productive specially on a Monday. I didn't report for work today so I might at least update my blog. Hahaha!

April has been a very busy and exhausting month for me. Aside from the fact that the weather resembles those of our cooking ovens there are also a lot of work to do and extra-curricular corporate activities in my  calendar.

Meet my latest finds and activities for the month:

Bear Brand Adult Plus
This is my daily energy replenishment. I cannot sleep at night without drinking a glass of milk and swallowing my health supplements.

Meet my working station and my working companions! :)

Magic Faucet
I enjoyed looking at this "Magic Faucet" at The Science Centrum in Marikina Riverbanks Center.

Ms. Alyanna Martinez demonstrating her make-up tricks.
Attended Benefit's Summer Beauty Talk at Rustans EDSA Shangri-La last April 13, 2013. The attendees gained knowledge on the latest summer make-up trends as well as other beauty tips from no other than "Benefit's Guru of Gorgeous" -Ms. Alyanna Martinez.

My freebie from the Benefit Summer Beauty Talk is a cute sample sized It's Potent Eye Cream.

April Haul
Above is the latest damage that I have caused my wallet. I even forgot to include the Acca Kappa Brush on their family portrait.

My summer essentials. This Belo/Cosmopolitan Sun-Safe pouch is very useful for me since this is where I store my body and facial sunscreens which saves my time looking for stuffs specially during those impromptu beach trips at home. I had it last summer as a freebie from Cosmopolitan Magazine's summer issue.

Deli Office Supply's Sorted Envelopes makes budgeting easier and it helps me keep my receipts in order.

Dairy Queen Blizzard in Rocky Road keeps my cool this summer. My throat is not enjoying it though.

I miss Tokyo-Tokyo's Pork Tonkatsu with Apple Sauce so much that I dragged my boyfriend to Trinoma Mall last Saturday for a Sumo Meal.

Wish upon a starfish!
Attended our company outing at Sunset Beach Resort in Morong, Bataan.

I received my first loan from Pag-Ibig 2 weeks ago (Giddy-girl!). Ever since I learned the beauty of make-up, I always have a stand-up dresser from our house in Pangasinan, up to my college dorm in Manila, even in my present boarding house in Quezon City. I always dreamed of having my own vanity dresser complete with small cabinets to store my make-up and hair tools, large mirrors to fully view my face and outfit, and of course with a chair to keep me relaxed while performing my rituals (kulang nalang ng mirror bulbs ngayon!).
I got my vanity dresser from Marikina Riverbanks' Off-Price Department Store. Since their delivery service was already fullybooked 2 weeks before my date of purchase, I decided to take the disassembled parts at home and had my boyfriend assemble the whole thing come the next day which he patiently did. SWEET! :D

I might be a busy-bee and a exhausted lady for this month, but I am loving the fruits of my labor and enjoying  life's little surprises that come my way.

How's your summer going so far my dears? Enjoy the sun, sand and the water at the beach. Keep cool with all those iced goods and milkshakes. Flirt shamelessly and flaunt those curves. After all, what happens last summer should stay last summer! :)

The New Avon 360 White Day and Night Cream

I've been using Avon 360 White Day and Night Cream in an "on-off mode" for the past 6 months. "On-off" for I presently use the product for only 1 week this month due to the burning-hot weather. I used to use it regularly during the months of December and January. What I love about this product is that it amazingly minimizes pimple marks and dark discolorations on my face without causing irritations. It just tends to over-excite my sebaceous glands that I can start frying eggs on my greasy face come midday. Hahaha!

Just this April 15, 2013, Avon Philippines released the newly formulated 360 White Day and Night Cream which also comes in a new packaging. Is the newly formulated Anew 360 White Day & Night a hit or a miss?

Let me compare the old one with the new to find out.

The good old Anew 360 White Facial Creams.
Unboxing the new Avon Anew 360 White Creams.
The new look of Avon Anew 360 White.
The Avon Anew 360 White Night Cream:

Hydrates and nourishes skin. Formulated to effectively help repair 50% of sun damage within 24 hours.

Left: Original ; Right: New formula
The Avon Anew 360 White Day Cream:

Effectively moisturizes throughout the day and brings broad spectrum protection from UVA/UVB. Oil free, non-greasy and lightweight texture.

Left: Original ; Right: New formula

Claims: Specifically designed for Asian women and formulated with 3 patent/patent pending ingredients and designed to work at dermal level. Anew 360 White not only inhibit melanin, but also address various kinds of skin discoloration issues. Illuminate your skin to be dramatically fair, radiant and translucent.

The new formula contains PSP (Palm Signaling Protein) Technology which is similar to our palm's PSP. This exclusive formula suppresses melanin at the dermal level for the whitest white skin.

Use: Take a small amount of the product into your fingers and apply evenly on your face.

Price: Php499.00 for each 15g pot.

Hits:
  • The new formula can feel a bit warm during application but you will notice it adjusting to you body temperature afterwards.
  • The latest formula is more potent than the previous one. It whitens skin discoloration in just a short span of 1 week while it takes 2 weeks for you to see the result using the original formula.
  • The newly formulated day cream is less greasier than the old one.
Miss:
  • I find the pot-packaging (both old & new) to be unsanitary.
I am to convert my old jar with the latest Anew 360 White Day and Night Creams. These facial creams are great tools this summer season to reverse any damage caused by pimples, rash aftermaths and minimal sun exposure. Make sure to store your creams in the fridge to keep them fresh and for one to have a more pleasant and cool application.

Dove Soaps

If am not into whitening soaps, I am using Dove. I used to hate using Dove soaps when I was a kid for it leaves a slippery texture on my skin after rising. I started to appreciate their soaps when I was in 3rd year college. It is when I realized how important moisture is to an adult's skin.

Dove Soap Philosophy:

"Here's the whole story of beautiful skin in one word: Moisture. Now you know why Dove created 1/4 moisturizing milk and put it into a beauty bar."

There may be a lot of moisturizing soaps in the market but Dove wins the approval of majority. It is one indispensable product and is highly praised by women in any social stratum.

Here are my favorites from their growing range of beauty bar soaps:

Dove White Beauty Bar
My travel kit can never be complete without a Dove White Beauty Bar soap in it. I love that fact that I can use this soap even on my face without drying my facial area. The scent is classic and not overpowering for me.

Dove Go Fresh Energizing Beauty Bar
The sparkling grapefruit and lemongrass scent never fails to tickle my senses and energize my mood. It also has tiny beads which gently exfoliates my skin. I use this bar every summer season to freshen my skin.

Claims: (Please refer to the "Dove Soap Philosophy" above.)

Use: Apply on skin then rinse off.

Price: Starts at Php35.00 for a 50g travel-sized bar.

Hits:
  • The price is very affordable.
  • I can skip applying lotion at nigh when I use it during summer.
  • It keeps my skin supple and soft.
  • It does not cause any skin irritation on my "normal to dry" body skin type.
Miss:
  • Others are not pleased with the slippery texture it leaves on the skin when rinsed.
  • None that I can think of already. Hahaha! :)))

3-Day Skin Repair with Physiogel & Oilatum Bar

Sh*t happens and it came my way 2 weeks earlier. It was when I tried this "Extra Thick" night cream for 2 consecutive nights that I woke-up in horror on my third day. My skin is scaly and itchy with small red bumps all over my face. This is what scares me every time I try to experiment on facial creams especially those with strong scents and uberly thick formulas.

My scary skin/face... :(

Have you noticed the tiny red bumps?
Good thing I received free product samples from Stiefel during the BDJ Box Beauty Social days before the unfortunate "skincident" took place.

Oilatum Bar
My daily "Skin Repair" regime:

1. I use the Physiogel Cleanser to remove light make-up and dirt. (Night time only)

2. Having an oily skin, I wash my face with Oilatum Bar after removing my make-up with Physiogel Cleanser.

3. I spritz my face with cool water from the fridge.

4. Lastly, I apply Physiogel Cream evenly on my face and neck.

5. I use the Physogel Lotion on my elbows and knees.

Claims:

Physiogel: Clinically proven to repair the skin barrier. It is formulated to resemble the natural building blocks of your skin and hence is able to repair and rehydrate dry, sensitive skin. It is clinically proven to lock in moisture for up to 3 days even with washing.

Oilatum Bar: Is a mild cleanser for dry, sensitive skin. It helps reduce dryness and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. The gentleness of Oilatum bar makes it suitable for all akin types including children's and infants'.

Use: Please refer to my "Skin Regime" above.

Price:

Physiogel Cleanser: Prices starts at Php220.00 for a 100ml bottle.
Physiogel Cream: Prices starts at Php555.00 for a 75ml tube.
Physiogel Lotion: Prices starts at Php895.00 for a 200ml bottle.
(These products are also available in sachet)

Oilatum Bar: Prices starts at Php350.00 for a 100g bar.

Hits:
  • I use the Oilatum Soap on my face which leaves a squeaky clean feel when rinsed.
  • The tiny red bumps on my skin disappeared in just 3 days.
  • I didn't experience any skin irritation when using their products.
  • My skin feels comfortable and moisturized while staying in an air-conditioned for 8 hours.
Miss:
  • The price can be a bit pricey for others.
  • The cream is not suitable for those with oily skin type.
I would definitely recommend these products to those with very dry and sensitive skin. It is also dermatologically tested and prescribed worldwide, so you really have nothing to worry about its quality and effectivity. I believe that this product helps calm my dry and irritated skin caused by the thick and heavily scented facial cream that I used prior it. (I prefer not to disclose the particular product -facial cream- for I love the brand.)

Meet my skin 3 days after my Physiogel and Oilatum Bar skin regime:

Welcome back my healthy and supple skin! :)))

"The Difference is Dove"

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you might have noticed that I am a fan of simple but no nonsense products. Though multitasking products give us such relief in our daily stressful lives, it is a basic human instinct to stick or return to their tried, tested and  proven brands.

During my childhood years, I am more inclined in using Tender Care, Safeguard and Johnson & Johnson soaps for my daily bath. I used to think that applying lotion is such a waste of time that I only end-up being a humid magnet afterwards. Everything has changed when I reached my third year in college. Having only 3 hours of sleep (or even 30mins.), all those lessons that you have to cram, social ladder that you have to climb, family expectations, lovelife (?) all those sudden stress and unexpected surge of hormones came without a single drop of warning. I can easily draw lines in my arms (via white scratch marks) and it pains me to see dull, dry and lifeless skin covering my muscles and internal organs. Hahaha! That is the period when I started to appreciate Dove beauty products.

My Dove Skin Care Favorites
Ever since I started using Dove skin care products way back year 2009, it has been a staple product in my bathroom. My skin does not easily get dry or scaly even after staying in air-conditioned rooms for a very long period of time. I can also skip applying body lotion (at night) when using any of their soap variants during summer.Their deodorant sticks are very reliable for it has a pleasant scent, keeps your armpits dry and neutralizes unwanted odors plus keeps your sensitive underarm skin hydrated to prevent skin darkening due to friction. Presently, I am also using their hair care products which is also very effective for my normal hair type.

I'll be posting my individual Dove product reviews pretty soon. :)

Do you also love Dove? What is/are your favorite Dove product/s?

Please feel free to share/comment your response below.

The Body Shop Elderflower Unperfumed Eye Gel

I am allergic to sweat. Not the oily-lubricating one but the watery type of sweat that comes dripping into our skin during humid days or after engaging in extreme exercises. During summer, I often experience a little tingling sensation and worst having rashes on my skin due to excessive sweat. That is why I try to avoid applying scented moisturizers on my face when I am not staying in an air-conditioned room. I am more than glad to find this light moisturizing and fragrance-free eye gel from The Body Shop.

The Body Shop Elderflower Unperfumed Eye Gel
The product is as simple as that!
Claims: Cools, soothes and refreshes the skin around the eye area.

Use: Gently pat around the eye area as needed. Avoid direct contact with eyes.
I put the pot into the fridge for a much cooler and pleasant application.

Price: Php395.00 for a 15ml pot.

Hits:
  • It doesn't give me that tingling sensation when I perspire.
  • Oil free and is absorb by the skin pretty fast.
  • It is perfect to use when I am planning to pile on heavy eye make-up.
  • Refreshes my sleepy eyes.
  • Cheaper than most eye (skin) moisturizing products.
Miss:
  • I find the pot container to be a bit unsanitary to use. Daily hand-dipping, anyone?
  • It does not address other eye (skin) concerns such wrinkles, sagging and discoloration.
I love the product! I am currently using this twice a day to gently moisturize my eye area throughout the humid and hot summer season. I do hope that The Body Shop will at least put it in a tube type container to avoid product contamination when in use.

Holy Week 2013 Happy List

Finally, I had the most energizing vacation ever! After 3 straight months of work-work-work, I went home in  Pangasinan with my boyfriend to visit my parents, bond with high school friends and experience extreme peace and quite moments.

Below are my simple pleasures for the week:

I attended the 1st BDJ Box Beauty Social at SM MOA.
Sabaya Line and Shadow Pencil in 01
I received this beautifully black eyeliner from my work supervisor. I'll post reviews soon.

Tons of Pasalubongs from my Ate Ann!!! :)))
Net Fashion Collection Taiwan
I am surprised with 2 dresses, 2 long tops, 2 collared shirts and a cute mani/pedi kit from my cousin who is currently based in Taiwan. Thank you so much couz Ann! Too bad, I wasn't able to catch you during your short trip in Alaminos. :(

Bonded with my highschool buddies at Dasoland.
The adventure park is still under re-enhancement process. But I enjoyed the serenity of the area and the company of my high school friends. It is a very nice place for you to stroll and take a dip with the family. It is also a child friendly outing venue.

Navarro Lomi House and Bakeshop in Mabini, Pangasinan.
I've discovered this lovely Lomi House and Bakeshop in Mabini through my friends after we strolled Dasoland. Navarro Lomi House and Bakeshop cooks the best Lomi in Mabini, Pangasinan. Very delish! Another thing is that they also prepare their own Lomi noodles. The price for a single bowl serving of Lomi starts at Php25.00. Awesome, right!? :)))

Juicy Mangoes straight from our backyard.
It's that time of the year where I get to eat, drink and chill mangoes 'till I drop! I am thankful for the generous mango trees scattered in our backyard for the bountiful harvest it has rewarded us this year.

Selecta Blasts with Mrs. Fields Choco Chip Cookie bits
This is my "Beat-the-Heat" treat to my family. We all love its Chocolate Chip Cookie and Vanilla Ice Cream combo at home!

Sweet-Potato Rolls with Cheese and Sesame Seeds
What I love (and hate) most when I'm at home is when my parents spoil me with all these lovely native dishes from fresh fruits, seafood and homemade desserts. I managed to down 3 female crabs in one meal, finished 6 shells of "pana-pana" (sea urchin) and snacked-on at least 2 kilos of mangoes. Burp!

Frog Princess
My boyfriend even managed to take a picture of this extremely "pa-cute froglet" who seems to be lost in our room.

Oh well, I do miss my life as a student where I get to spend at least 2 months of straight vacation in Pangasinan. Thank heavens for such extra long non-working occasions where I get to relax and recharge in our home-sweet-home. Now, I have to brace myself for another stressful month!

Burn April -Buuuuuuuuuuurn!

Lemongrass Asian Bistro at EDSA Shangri-La

Warning: I have nothing to rave about in this blog entry.

I may be a food lover, but I also have such sensitive tastebuds. I have very high expectations on food. Afterall, why would someone put up a resto when he or she is not passionate about food or at least has a good taste in food. I have long been wanting to try the Lemongrass Asian Bistro at EDSA Shangri-La Mall. Last month, during the launch of MAC's Archie's Girls Collection I finally had the chance to try dining at the  said restaurant.

Lemongrass
The restaurant has a cute light-green and oriental but minimalist ambiance which is very cool to one's eyes.

Chinese Lanterns
Patterned Glass Ornaments on their walls.
Fresh Lemonade for Php125.00 per serving.
Their Fresh Lemonade is refreshingly good. I just hoped that they, at all the least, removed the seeds from the lemon garnish so I could save straining it with my teeth. :S

Lemongrass Baby Back Ribs BBQ Rice for Php295.00.
LG Baby Back Ribs BBQ comes with BBQ Sauce and Buttered Veggies.
Lemongrass Baby Back Ribs Barbecue Rice is a neutral dish. Not that bad, but not so great either. It was my boyfriend's order and he managed to finish the single serving.

Breaded Prawns with Garlic Rice for Php280.00
For my love of seafood, I ordered the Breaded Prawns with Garlic Rice. Guess what? I ended up loving the Garlic Rice even more than the prawns. There were only 3 pieces of prawn, all which still has their heads and veins on. Why, oh, why? I wanna cry!

What I don't understand is that if I had chosen the wrong menu or the staffs are simply having a bad day. I also noticed a lady customer on the other table adjacent to ours who is complaining about the taste of their dessert. She is with her 3 daughters and a nanny.

Have you been to Lemongrass Asian Bistro at EDSA Shangri-La Mall? Does their salads make justice to their beautiful ambiance? I am currently having second thoughts on returning to the said resto. Maybe I should just  try other dishes from their menu. Please feel free to comment your suggestions. :)))

Note: Their prices are subjected to 5% service charge.
