I used to associate the word "Mamou" as a term of endearment used by my becky friends to someone whom they see as a mother figure. It was until I discovered this lovely restaurant named "Mamou" that it became a gastronomic torture (sweet torture) everytime I hear it.
If only history subjects were taught a simple as this one. :))) |
Last February 2013, I decided to treat my boyfriend for a post-Valentine lunch at Mamou Restaurant. I even made a reservation a week before our date just to be safe, since the restaurant is notorious for being fully booked most of the time. When we came into their Power Plant branch by 11:00am, there were only a few guests in the establishment waiting for their orders. I mentioned my name to their waiter who gladly assisted us to our table, which bears my name on a acrylic stand. I also noticed that almost half of the tables inside were already reserved (buti nalang moment).
I never thought warm tangerine colors, oak furniture, and diagonal floor details will work well together. :))) |
Bread, Butter and Water. |
The lady carrying a stove? |
Since me and my boyfriend are currently suffering from unfortunate stomach events, we decided not to try their steaks yet. Reserve. Reserve. Nevertheless, Mamou didn't fail our expectations.
Mamou's Iced Tea for Php80.00. |
Mamou's Iced Tea is definitely not just your ordinary glass of iced tea. It has that extra appeal into your tastebuds sans the artificial taste. Even my boyfriend agrees that it is a must try.
Tofu & Tinapa Spring Rolls for round Php200.00 (not sure of the exact price). |
Tofu and Tinapa Spring Rolls is an instant hit for me and my boyfriend! First of all, the name is unusual. Another is thing is the tinapa and tofu combination which is formed into crispy and tangy rolls. All our doubts were disregarded upon tasting this dish. It is served with sweet & sour sauce and a light vinegar dip, both of which compliments the dish very well.
Roast Pork and Chicken Sharing (can serve 2) for Php595.00. |
With the Roast Pork and Chicken Dish, you can choose whether to go solo or you might want to spare a friend by ordering the "sharing" serving. Included in the dish were roasted pork and chicken, black beans, caramelized saba and cuban rice. I suspect the Cuban rice to be coarse, but I was disappointed (sarcastically) to find that it has just the right firmness and to my surprise it doesn't even feel scratchy in my throat. Me and my boyfriend loved the roasted meats, which is very tender and flavorful. However, my boyfriend extremely savored the caramelized saba and black bean, that he left me with only a very small portion. Masabing natikman ko lang. Hahaha!
Dark Chocolate Sans Rival for Php180.00 per single serving. |
A good ending for a great meal. I love how the dark chocolate balances the taste of this dessert. It is not too sweet, but not that bland either.
I highly recommend this restaurant for everyone to try, especially those who loves home cooked meals with a twist. It is also a perfect place for us to treat our "balikbayan" relatives. I guarantee this place to be worth every penny you are going to spend! Their servings will leave your stomach filled but not too full. Another plus is their customer service. The store manager even manages to round every table during peak hours and politely asks a few feedback from customer regarding the food, service, venue and anything under the sun. And oh, the manager who is currently on shift that day is a pretty, slim and chinita lady who is very accommodating and friendly.I didn't managed to get her name though. Hahaha!
Note: Prices are inclusive of VAT and is subjected to 10% service charge.

I think the person who figured out that putting everything in drawers in a Kitchen Showrooms Sydney should get the Nobel prize! Soooo much easier to find everything without getting on hands and knees to find that pan that got shoved to the back! It looks big enough for the family to cook with you too, and that is so much fun!
